Ohio is WELL represented in the latest Paste Magazine blind-taste ranking of 176 of the best Double/Imperial IPAs. Placing in the Top 50 (and in the process besting some of the standard bearers of the style, such as Heady Topper and Sip Of Sunshine) were Columbus Brewing Company’s Creeper (#29) and Bodhi (#8), Seventh Son Brewing’s Proliferous (#20), and The Brew Kettle’s El Lúpulo Libre (#18). Sibling Revelry Brewing also had two selections ranked outside of the Top 50, as did Urban Artifact and Wolf’s Ridge Brewing, and Ill Mannered Brewing Company and Seventh Son had one each…
Brew Gentlemen, from our neighbors to the east (Braddock, Pennsylvania) took home top honors with Lou, and also placed Akamai (#42) in the Top 50.
The biggest winners of all however may be Triple Crossing Brewing of Richmond, Virginia, who, despite the presence on the list of their more hyped Richmond neighbors The Veil, managed to place TWO DIPAs in the Top FIVE (#4 and #2). Pretty impressive stuff in a blind tasting.
